An exceptional place to eat a hearty, quality breakfast/brunch! The service and coffee are perfect and the food is incredibly generous/hearty and ‘real food’. The view is outstanding – of course – straight down lake Wakatipu and watching the Earnslaw depart for Walter Peak. Good Morning!

Pancakes with real Maple Syrup and grilled banana – my daughter’s favourite and good enough to rival all others.

This place looks a little grand and honestly expensive.  If grand means good-service, then it definitely is. But, it is not expensive and the servings belie that. We will be back!

The salmon and poached eggs was so generous, I almost could not finish it. Eggs cooked exactly as requested – very important.

Eggs Benedict with Portobello Mushrooms. You could taste the rich, real yolk in the sauce, the mushrooms were amazing…

The drinks list is modest, but in keeping with the style, many guests ordered wine by the glass – a few choices of each type – or beer (the Grolsch-style tap beer is great). Water was kept topped up, waitresses and bar staff were all friendly and obviously worked well as a team – essential in such a fast-paced environment.

Dishes are designed to be shared, so food arrives to the table as it is ready.

I really wanted prawns, so started with Prawn Satay.  They seemed ‘bought in’ kind of kebabs – tasted non-descript and were a bit dry and over-cooked.  Even the fresh peanut sauce could not lift them.  But, this was the only thing we tasted and saw that looked disappointing.

Malaysian Beef Rendang (curry) –  If the large pieces of slow-cooked beef were all put together, it would be a huge steak of melting beef in lightly flavoured, but spicy coconut sauce – with rice on the side.  A side order of Lychee, Radish & iceberg Lettuce served as a great palate cleanser. Brilliant value for money – totally recommend this! Yes, we shared it.

We also shared the whole blue cod steamed in sesame, soy, chilli and ginger wine. This came to the table assumedly on the hot plate it was steamed on, looking fabulous and tasting better.

We will absolutely make Madam Woo a regular family and/or friends dining experience.
