The decor of this Crowne Plaza restaurant is modern, city-style. We were warmly welcomed and seated by the huge windows overlook the busy footpath, road, wharf, boats and lake.   Our well-dressed waiter was very friendly & knowledgable about the good -range wine list and menu. Water and wine glasses were refilled all evening and plated cleared promptly.

Diverse choice of menu items, so we tried to order something we would never cook.  Entree of Beef Cheeks. Texture was like braised beef, with the stickiness of slow cooked shanks. Delicious jus-strong flavour but not the saltiness that comes from store- bought stock. Served with  crushed fresh peas- the colour of new willow leaves and tasting creamy, with blanched honey- glazed baby carrots. Perfect colour & texture contrast!  Duck drumstick entree – roasted in orange & juniper berry& ginger. Delicious flavour & perfectly cooked, served on haricot beans in tomato base. A little like baked beans only way better.

Mains of Fillet of  Beef on rosemary roasted kumara, sliced spring onion  black olive – original combo and well-balanced combination.  Fish of the day was pan-fried Warehou. I have only ever had this fish smoked before – it has quite a strong flavour and meaty texture. Freshened with basil, haloumi  & diced tomato in basil pesto delicious. Side orders can be added for a reasonable price, but Mains were interesting, so it didn’t seem imperative.

Desserts are only $12.50 – priced from a past era. We ordered a really unusual dessert – Tropical Summer Delight. A  chef’s experiment – not gone wrong at all, just unusual except for the familiar Sorbet from the triple flavours.
